  • Shannon Rochon
Shannon Rochon 11 months ago Hi Kirsty, here you are specifically using pencils for both the graphite & charcoal but in another tutorial you used thick sticks that you just powdered up to use with brushes. I can't recall which tutorial it was though...:( Could you please advice me which hardness you prefer using for the charcoal & graphite blocks? Also, what brush quality should I be looking at? I use the exact same paper for nearly all my B&W work be it graphite, charcoal or contΓ©. Out of curiosity, do you use the more textured side or do you flip the paper over for the smoother side?

SNOOP U 2 1 year ago Kirsty Partridge Art they both look good but I understand what you mean all my pictures I draw of people look cartoony, in San Francisco warf board walk they have those people out there charging for $ to draw a portrait of someone there are some pretty bad artists charging for a picture that looks nothing like the person the husband refused to pay but the wife gave the lady some money and thank her for the time I looked at the drawing and understand why the husband refused to pay for the picture I laughed when I saw it this lady really didn't look like she had no experience in drawing I think she was just out there trying to hustle some people? Or maybe she was trying
  • Stuart T
Stuart T 1 year ago I disagree I work in high contrast and harsh lines and can get just as good results what i recommended is Willow charcoal instead of hard you can sharping it or use the edge for details it also erase easy I agree with the fingers I use q tips for that as well. Don't be afraid not to erase it will make you a better artist use acrylic spray to set the charcoal in between so you can layer the charcoal and create different tones on the grey scale.white charcoal is great, but I find a light grey charcoal can make a real difference . And if you need to erase buy a gum eraser. BFA Student at Mount Allison University :)

Daily Hood News Report 3 months ago Teeth aren’t drawn. It’s all shades and shadows . Very light accents with a shader where it needs to be dark to define shape and definition Remember there are no hard lines in real life. • milkkomi.
milkkomi. 1 year ago To all the people who watched this and thought that they couldn't do either side, this is for you. Art is about channeling your feelings and your creativity onto a canvas. No matter what you draw, it is a work of art. And I think the do's and don't's you see on YouTube and instagram etc. are great and all, but not all people draw like this. I want everyone to know that that is okay and it's what makes your art unique. So for people who share this more realistic style, this may be great advice. But everyone who has more of an anime or cartoon like style like me needs to know that it'd perfectly fine if you can't draw like this. I've seen so many friends and family who draw get so demotivated from watching these. But I hope you, who may or may not be reading this knows, no matter your style, your art, is still art! It's beautiful and wonderful and it has its quirks. Kudos to the artist for being able to draw this good too. Keep drawing guys! πŸ’•

  • Liloh Loves Subtitles
Liloh Loves Subtitles 3 months ago @Paislee Fiddyment - My mum can't draw realistically at all and she's an established artist here in NZ, it's been her sole source of income for 30 years now (she's a self-taught sculptor/painter). You are incorrect in what you say because if someone is creative enough then it doesn't matter if they can draw realistically or not. My mum's work is of very sad cartoon-type dogs and weird little fat men holding umbrellas with their coats open (naked underneath) and things like that. people love it. There are plenty of artists like mum who just can't draw (or sculpt) realistically and are still successful. Or at the very least get pleasure from their work even if they don't want to exhibit it. Mum's friend carves giant shapes out of blocks of stone and is pretty successful, but could never make a realistic person. Honestly your perspective is very limiting and that's the sort of thing that crushes people's creativity before they ever have a chance to explore it, I feel very sorry for kids who end up with art teachers with perspectives like yours because it's not only inaccurate, it's harmful for creativity.
  • Sue Allen
Sue Allen 4 months ago Julian Haddad, grow up and go somewhere else if you can't make an intelligent comment, not funny or clever just childish!!!!!
  • Alejandro A
Alejandro A 4 months ago Paislee Fiddyment you are speaking the truth, you need humility to admit to yourself that you need to work on your flaws and you need HARD work to be competent in something with a high skill gap! You need to be strong and persistent and know that you can do anything you apply yourself to learn. But first... you need to admit that you suck and you will suck for a long time before been competent and knowledgeable in something, in this case realistic drawing which is a fundamental tool you need to have to then conceptualized a style with intention not just a style that is restricted by your own deficiencies.
  • Paislee Fiddyment
Paislee Fiddyment 4 months ago zouhwee ignorance is bliss, I suppose. If my short, two paragraph comment is too much to read for someone, it’s safe to assume that art is too much for them to be taking seriously or actively trying to improve with, so my comment wasn’t directed at them anyway. It’s okay girl, I was that way once before and wasted metric tons of my own time because I didn’t want to listen to those with the experience and skill level to know better than I knew at the time. Can’t say I ever felt the need to make petty comments to dismiss them though instead of just moving along with my life but, to each their own lol.
